Excessive menstrual blood loss which interferes with a woman’s physical, social, emotional and/or material quality of life. It can occur alone or in combination with other symptoms. It is a common cause of morbidity with menstrual disorders accounting for 12% of referrals to gynaecology.

For 3 months between June 2026 to the end of August 2026, GG&C are running a pilot where patients with unscheduled vaginal bleeding aged 45 years and over will be triaged to clinic using Wid-Easy swab technology.

Patients will be contacted directly to have a vaginal swab taken within a nurse led gynaecology clinic.  The results of these swabs will then be relayed to patients and their GPs via the dedicated team.  Follow up in primary care, routine gynaecology, or USOC gynaecology will be arranged as appropriate.
