How to use these cards

You can use these cards in any way that helps you and your colleagues to think and talk about safety culture. There is also an option below each card to write your reflections. If you are using the cards in a group, one person may need to act as discussion facilitator. You can use as many or as few cards as you like. The cards are organised in 6 themes:

  1. Leadership, management and supervisor commitment
  2. Responsibility and involvement
  3. Teamwork and Communication
  4. Just culture, reporting and learning
  5. Resourcing
  6. Risk awareness and management

Here are 4 possibilities of using these cards:

Option 1: safety moments

Click on the tile of the theme that resonates most with you. Then choose 1 card to discuss then note your reflections. (10-15minutes)

Option 2: index wildcard

Click on the index of cards theme and take turns to choose a card at random to discuss and note reflections on. (10-15minutes per card)

Option 3: themed focus

Choose a theme and discuss all of the cards within that theme in turn. Note suggested areas for improvement and what is already going well. (1 hour)

Option 4: SWOT analysis

Choose a selection of cards from different themes. Discuss if it is a strength, weakness, opportunity or threat. Note themes you may wish to meet again to discuss all cards in depth. (1-3 hours)
