Public libraries strengthen Realistic Medicine by helping people build the skills, confidence and understanding they need to take an active role in their health and care.

They support people to make sense of health information, use digital tools, access trusted resources and stay connected through welcoming community spaces.

For healthcare professionals, they are a practical, local asset that enhances shared decision‑making and person‑centred care.

The purpose of this module is to help healthcare professionals:

  • understand how public libraries support Realistic Medicine
  • be confident to signpost patients to library services that enhance shared decision‑making, health literacy and personal wellbeing
  • be confident to work with public libraries to engage citizens and communities as partners in Realistic Medicine
